Energy centres, often referred to as chakras, are vital elements in the pursuit of holistic health and wellbeing. They provide a framework for understanding the energies that shape our physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being. Rooted in ancient wisdom, this concept is increasingly becoming 'mainstream' in our pursuit of 'wellbeing'. In todays post, I'll explore what energy centers are (in my experience & understanding), their significance, and why maintaining their free flow is essential for achieving a balanced and harmonious life.
Understanding Energy centres
Energy centres are specific points within our bodies that influence various mental, emotional, physical and spiritual functions (aka our life 'experience'). Traditionally, seven main chakras are recognised that line up along the spine, from the base (root) to the crown (top) of the head. Each chakra corresponds to unique primary functions and therefore affects how we experience (translate) different aspects of our lives.
Root Chakra: Located at the base of the spine, it forms the foundation for feelings of safety and security. For example, when this chakra is clear and balanced, individuals may feel stable, safe and grounded in their bodies, which obviously is reflected in a feeling of safety in their life experience. Unintegrated fear is held here.
Sacral Chakra: Found just below the navel, it governs the flow of creativity and sexuality. For artists, a healthy, flowing sacral chakra may enhance their ability to generate new ideas effortlessly. If a persons sacral centre is stifled and not flowing freely they may act out promiscuously, or the opposite, they may fear sexual experiences or feel they are sinful. Unintegrated guilt is held here.
Solar Plexus Chakra: This chakra, located in the upper abdomen (between the point that the ribs meet), relates to personal power and confidence to achieve our truest desires. Complete self acceptance for exactly who we are (warts and all) moment to moment is experienced when the solar plexus is flowing freely. Unintegrated shame is held here. Unintegrated shame & self doubt is subconsciously held here, seemingly blocking us from achieving what we (the soul) yearns to achieve (be) this life time. Genuine forgiveness for self, then other is generated from this centre.
Heart Chakra: Positioned in the centre of the chest, its' healthy flow is essential for unconditional love of self and other, and therefore it is essential that it flows freely for true, authentic and genuine connection. Game playing and point scoring in relationships stops when the heart centre is flowing freely.A balanced heart chakra facilitates healthier relationships. Unintegrated grief and loss is subconsciously held here.
Throat Chakra: This chakra facilitates communication and self-expression. Open, honest dialogue in relationships indicates its strength and balance. The subconscious lies we tell/ believe about ourselves and others in our lives (our relationships) are held here. Our authentic expression (Soul) moment to moment is held back by the lies/ beliefs that are held here.
Third Eye Chakra: Located between the eyebrows, it is linked to intuition and insight. A well-balanced, free flowing third eye can help individuals make better decisions with unbiased clarity.
Crown Chakra: The top of the head connects us to infinitely expanded consciousness. Our WHOLE being or I like to call it God. The no thing out of which every THING emerges and recedes back to moment to moment. The ocean of eternal Being. A vibrant crown chakra may inspire a sense of your unique, authentic and original purpose in life. A free flowing crown centre connects us consciously to our unlimited potential.
Understanding how these energy centres function is fundamental to recognising how essential their free flow is to our well-being. Each chakra plays a vital role, and when energy flows freely, our lives become more harmonious, balanced, free, light and contented.
The Importance of Free Flow
Free-flowing energy through these centres can lead to improved physical health, mental and emotional stability, and clarity. However, most of us have blockages that inevitably arise from genetic inheritance and conditioning (limited, harmful and erroneous belief systems) held in the body/ mind. These blockages can lead to mental and emotional instability which then leads to unhealthy habits to 'cope' or necessity for medication which further exacerbates imbalance in the energy flow.
Blocked energy manifests in various ways. For example, persistent fatigue may point to issues relating to the solar plexus chakra while emotional distress can indicate sacral or heart chakra blockages. Maintaining the vitality and balanced flow of our energy centres is absolutely essential for overall well-being.
Think of energy flow like a clean river. Just as a river must flow freely and expel its waste and debris to nourish its surroundings, our energy centres must remain open, clear and balanced to sustain our holistic wellbeing. The food we eat must be nourishing, our environment must be nourishing. Our bodies must move and exercise. Our subconscious limiting and harming beliefs to self and other must be integrated.
Our Soul essence, our life force, our God within, must be given space and room to flow freely and authentically....
Signs of Blocked Energy Centers
Awareness of blocked energy centres is obviously essential in order to maintain their 'free flow'.. Each chakra has its own set of indicators signalling the need for attention.
For instance:
Root Chakra: Feelings of fear, insecurity or instability. Lack of feeling safe, grounded and connected, lack of feeling able to stand strong in our own centre, on our own feet, could indicate blockage.
Sacral Chakra: Creative blocks, sexual intimacy issues, feelings of chronic guilt or relationship troubles may suggest issues here.
Solar Plexus Chakra: Frequent digestive complaints, chronic shame or blame, feelings of overwhelm, lifes 'too hard' beliefs, 'I'll never achieve a life I want' beliefs, confusion, self doubt "I don't know who I am or what I want",all might reflect solar plexus dysfunction.
Heart Chakra: Emotional numbness, aloofness, lack self love (feeling loved, warm, safe and nurtured) and love for others, inauthentic, unfulfilling relationships (unintegrated grief, loss, abandonment issues),can point to blockages here.
Throat Chakra: Inability to express authentically, living a lie, deluding ourselves, inability to see and handle our own and others authentic truth. Sore throats, neck pain, gossiping, unable to talk authentically, honestly, in a grounded, centred expression..
Third Eye Chakra: Living in delusion or a preferred 'mental' fantasy to avoid truth, Being overly mental and analytical 'about' life. Not 'feeling' and trusting intuition through life, just 'thinking' through life. Lack of trust in the natural flow, overly controlling. A blocked third eye can manifest as confusion, lack of clarity, difficulty making decisions, OVER analysis, analysis paralysis, headaches, ear problems and vision problems, as well as emotional symptoms like depression and anxiety.
Crown Chakra: feelings of disconnection, confusion, self doubt, disorientation, a lack of purpose, spiritual confusion, and physical symptoms like headaches, insomnia, and fatigue.
Having awareness of somatic (bodily) sensations and really listening to these signals allows individuals to take steps toward restoring balance and the free flow of your centres (life force).
Daily Practices to Enhance Energy Flow
To encourage a healthy flow of energy, various practices can be incorporated into daily routines.
As mentioned cultivating AWARENESS of disequilibrium is number !.
Somatic work, Yoga for stretching out tension where energy is held in the body, and mindful meditation stand out as particularly effective methods. Yoga facilitates movement of life force energy which balances the chakras itself and releases trapped energy.
Somatic work is amazing, just by being guided out of the mind and back home in to the body cultivates a natural 'being' with whatever is authentically arising. The natural 'being' with the unintegrated energy - integrates it!...by itSELF... Life force then flows freely.
Meditation fosters self-awareness, allowing individuals to focus on their energy centres (energy body). Visualisation techniques are amazing too, where we can use imagination to see, sense and feel energy radiating freely from each chakra.
You'll find what resonates most for your body/ mind.
In addition, engaging in creative activities and practicing breathwork can support energy flow. Activities such as hiking or engaging in energy healing practices like Reiki and hypnotherapy and acupuncture can also promote a robust energy system.
Hypnotherapy is amazing for integrating unintegrated energy. We can utilise hypnosis to heal that little child inside who believed they were bad, abandoned or unworthy of love. When that little wounded one is made whole again our energy (life force) flows freely.
Nourishing Your Energy Centres
Alongside regular practices, mindful nutrition is VITAL for energy health. Consuming natural, whole, and vibrant foods resonates with the frequencies of different chakras. For example, root vegetables like carrots and potatoes are particularly supportive of the root chakra, while leafy greens like spinach nourish the heart chakra.
Treats are obviously ok in moderation....balance...the 'middle' path :)....
Staying hydrated is essential as well. Water not only powers our bodies, but it also promotes energy flow.
Adopting a balanced lifestyle that includes physical activity, mental well-being, and spiritual enrichment can substantially enhance the vitality of your energy centres.
Having gratitude and reverence for the mysterious gift of ALIVENESS itself!
Counting our infinite blessings!...our breath, our loved ones, our food, our roof over our heads, our water on tap!
Appreciating the Power of Energy Centres to make or break our lives!
In summary, the dynamics of energy centres, or chakras, are absolutely essential for maintaining a holistic sense of health and wellbeing. By understanding their functions and ensuring that we do everything we can to aid their free flow, we can navigate our unfolding life journey with more authenticity, ease, power, wisdom and grace.
Identifying signs of blockage and implementing practices necessary to enhance energy flow, can lead to improvements in our mental, emotional and physical health and wellbeing, enhancing our conscious connection to our infinite, unlimited potential. Each person has the ability to focus on and nurture the flow of their energy (Life force) centres, restoring balance and harmony in their lives and those around them
